Balazs grew up in a show business family. At 17, he translated the Harper Book of Quotations to Hungarian and interned on Capitol Hill, where he wrote speeches for the late Congressman Tom Lantos, then wrote a comic autobiography about his experiences there. This scored him the head writer position on a comedy series when he was 18.
Balazs completed his undergraduate studies at Royal Holloway, University of London, then studied under Academy Award-winning Cathy Schulman and received an MFA from UCLA. He was an assistant director to his mentor, Oscar-winning director István Szabó on his movie Relatives. He has directed numerous music videos, commercials, TV series and short films.
