DIANE WILLIAMS is a Washington, DC, native and has an M.A. in English. She is a secret-cleared writer who works on government contracts and is currently with the State Department. She is also a freelance editor who works on novels and screenplays. For three years Diane facilitated the scriptwriting judging team for the Television, Internet & Video Association Peer Awards. Diane was a freelance sports reporter and covered the Washington Bullets during their NBA Championship season, University of Maryland men’s basketball and football, professional tennis, and collegiate, international and Olympic indoor and beach volleyball. She received a Media Recognition Award from USA Volleyball in 1987. Diane is also a photographer whose pictures frequently appear with her articles. Since 2011, Diane has helped produce four short films and has co-written and co-produced many award-winning 48 Hour Film Projects in Washington, DC, and Baltimore, MD. Her team’s films place second in the 2015 Baltimore 48HFP and third in 2016. Diane also wrote, directed, and produced her own short film, a documentary/quiz program called WHEN WAS THE WAR OF 1812 that is available to watch on YouTube. Diane’s first feature script, THE SAUCY JACK, is based on the life of her ancestor who was an American privateer during the War of 1812. This script is in the 2014 Women in Film & Video Spotlight on Screenwriters catalog and was also a Top 10 Finalist at the 2015 Charleston International Film Festival. Diane’s feature script, AN UN-CIVIL WAR, about a quest by a Confederate Army surgeon and his cavalry officer friend, was a semifinalist in the 2016 ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship and placed in the second round of the 2016 Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition. It is also listed in the 2015 Spotlight on Screenwriters catalog. Diane's current projects include a spec TV Pilot adapted from two books, STAR TO WINDWARD and I RAN AWAY TO SEA AT FIFTY, about the Fahnestock Expeditions in the South Pacific during the 1930s, and a spec comedy feature about busting phone scammers called DIRTY TAXES.
