James D Solomon

director/co-writer/producer The Witness; writer The Conspirator, 100 Centre Street, The Practice; writer/executive producer The Bronx is Burning

James Solomon is drawn to iconic true stories we think we know from Abraham Lincoln’s assassination (THE CONSPIRATOR) to George Steinbrenner’s Yankees (THE BRONX IS BURNING) to the infamous murder of Kitty Genovese (THE WITNESS).

Most recently, Solomon directed, produced and co-wrote the acclaimed feature documentary The Witness, about the killing of Kitty Genovese. The name "Kitty Genovese" became synonymous with bystander apathy after The New York Times reported that 38 witnesses watched her being murdered - and did nothing to help. The Witness, which premiered at the 2015 New York Film Festival, debunks one of America's most chilling crime stories as a brother reclaims his sister's forgotten life from her mythic death.

Previously, Solomon wrote the legal thriller about the Lincoln assassination, The Conspirator, directed by Robert Redford, which received the Humanitas Prize for Feature Films. He was also a lead writer and Executive Producer of ESPN’s eight-hour mini-series, The Bronx is Burning, starring John Turturro and Oliver Platt.  Solomon, who grew up and lives in New York City, began as a writer on several television series including Sidney Lumet’s 100 CENTRE STREET and the Emmy Award-winning THE PRACTICE
